New Year Giveaway

I want to thank all of the folks that follow and subscribe to the blog.  One of my goals this year is to post more and show more appreciation to those that keep me going.
I don’t do this for money or fame, but the emails and feedback that I get that tell me just much this blog makes a difference or helps some one along the way is enough pay.
So in appreciation for those that follow and subscribe I want to say thank you with a giveaway!

Here are the rules:
1.  Subscribe or Follow the blog.  If you are already a Follower or Subscriber.. THANK YOU.
2.  “Like” this post by hitting the “Like” button below this post.
3.  Leave a comment in the comment section of this post.  Any comment will do, but you must leave a comment.
That’s it.  It’s that easy and you could have one of these great stoves.
The last day you can leave a comment will be on January 16th 2014.  I will pick the winner of the giveaway on January 19th when I get home from the Oregon Winter Hang.
I want to thank Wes AKA Swankfly from Blood River Stoves for his contribution.  I really appreciate it.
I am sure that you will love the stove as much as I do.
Again… THANK ALL OF YOU for your support.  I appreciate your readership and hope that the blog serves you better this coming year!
2014 is going to be a great year, lets take this journey together.
Have a Great Scouting Day!

Jerry, even though I’m retired as Scoutmaster, I still read your blog. I’m an Assistant Scoutmaster and my troop is going to Philmont in 2015. I sent the new scoutmaster your blog so he could implement your backpacking gear plans. I took my troop to Philmont within days of your troop’s expedition in 2012 and the other adults that went with me say that they wish they had been able to see your blog before we went because it’s great advice! Take care!

  14. rbothe says:

Thank you for keeping up with current scouting issues. I have shared many of your posts with my sons Scoutmaster. The boys in his troop have decided to try to transition into more backpacking and you are a great resource.

  15. mkrzyski says:

Thank you! I have followed your blog for awhile. Because of learning from your podcast We have changed from car camping format to a backing format. Thank you. This one change has made a huge improvement of the scouting experience. The scouts love it. I personally have changed to alcohol stove after finding out it is not “outlawed” in scouting in your review. Thank you.

  16. agr1024 says:

Jerry, I am in on the contest. I have followed you from before the podcastes. I wish we were in an are where we could do year round backpacking. Keep up the good work.

Please teach us some cooking on the trail. Our troop has not done trail cooking and we could use some ideas.

  24. ScouterMark says:

Just started reading your blog as my son and I are new to Boy Scouts (crossed over last year). Have benefited from it and lots of good ideas on meaningful bits of wisdom to pass off to the boys and young men in the Troop.

  25. scouteradam says:

Thank you for all the tips about hammock camping and trekking in the snow over the years. Great stuff!

  26. Gene ORourke says:

Stumbled on this through a retweet from @DanBeardCouncil. Looks like great stuff – I’ll be following along!

  27. Nate Bacon says:

Greetings to you in the New Year!

I read your blog to keep myself centered in our world of Scouting and the Outdoors.

I often share a posting of yours at the Troop committee meeting to hammer home a point (and for that I’m often in debt to you)

but the thing I want to share with you is that you don’t need a contest for us who are ‘boots on the ground Scouters and leaders’. We are all a part of a bigger thing…Scouting, sometimes we just need to know that there are others out there who are just like us (crazy, lovers of challenges, addicted to the outdoors) and we live by the mantra that ‘we do it for the kids!’

Carry on, and thank you for what you do!

  28. Blaise Vitale says:

I appreciate reading and seeing your opinions about the myriad of Scouting issues!

  29. I am a new Scoutmaster and was looking for inspiration for a Scoutmaster’s Minute for our first meeting this year when I stumbled upon your site. Thank you for all the great infomation!

  30. wirejunky42 says:

I have been reading your blog for a long time now. I love how timely the information is sometimes. It seems like you are talking about my troop instead of your own. Thank you for the time you take our of you schedule to share your thoughts and wisdom with the rest of the scouters out here.

  31. maddhatter3 says:

Love your blog. Keep doing what you’re doing.

  32. Matt says:

  34. Todd Young says:

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I re-read to keep me focused and inspired!!

  35. Sam Dunkin says:

I have read your blog weekly for a few years. Have you thought about signing up for Scouts-L? They’ve just started a discussion on how to get a troop into lighter impact and backpacking, and you could contribute.

  36. Noel says:

Thank you for all you do for your Scouts. They are lucky to have such a caring Scoutmaster

  37. Ed Millman says:

Thanks, Jerry. I enjoy your blog an videos.

  38. Kevin Christensen says:

I watch your old tent video today and enjoyed a laugh at the method to your madness; we all have our own madness and I find it interesting how much we (I) have a tendency to mirror others whether consciencely or not. Thanks for the scouting tips, passion for developing the boys into men, your leadership of us older boys, and the gear reviews. One. Of these days I need to come try a hang with you to see if I want to convert.

  39. I want to thank every one for their comments on this post. The words of encouragement are very much appreciated and I am glad that this blog has been a source of help to many of you.
As much as I love the idea of this blog being a virtual community, it is to much for me to respond to each of the comments individually on this post. Please accept this reply as one to all of you. A huge THANK YOU to one and all.
Tomorrow will be the last day to enter a comment/ subscribe to be entered for the giveaway.. not to let to tell a friend.. or keep it to yourself to increase the odds for you.. haha.
Again… THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.
    Have a Great Scouting Day!

  40. Mark says:

    thanks for info and wisdom!
