Summer camp is a fantastic experience for the Scouts of your Troop. But that does not mean it can’t be fun the adults that go too. Each year we take our Scouts to camp. We limit the amount of Adults, after all, this is a program for the Scouts, but the three or four adults that do go get to have a wonderful time in camp also.
But what do you do when you are at camp. This weeks poll gives you a few choices that came off the top of my head after many years hanging out at camp.
Here is typically what I do.
First.. always take a good book.
Second… Stay out of the Scouts way. Be there to sign books and blue cards. Cheer them on when they play games, and have a smile on my face every day. But camp is for them.. leave them alone to hang out. We always make it a point to take the tents the furthest away from the patrols and in lots of cases use the back doors if they face into the camp. We want them to work the patrol method at camp and part of that is the interaction that takes place when they are playing and yeah I’ll say it.. screwing around.
And finally, I like to participate in adult programs that are offered. One of our camps takes all the Scoutmasters on a Horse back ride. A few of the camps offer adult swims and lunches.
By and large my week at camp is to provide support when needed and a great week to relax and take a break. Most days you will find me at the water front with a good book just taking in the sun.
So what do you do at camp? Let me know, leave a comment. Better yet.. use the SMMVoice mail line and tell me, it may end up in the next podcast! 503-308-8297. Lets hear about your week in camp!

Second 100
Today marks the last day of the second 100 days of Scouting blog campaign. But as I thought about it, I remembered back to what my good friend Mike Walton who at the beginning of the #100daysofscouting blog campaign wrote about the first one. And that was “I live Scouting everyday”.
Now we bl0ggers like to share our thoughts, ideas, and sometimes just ramblings about Scouting and just because we are now 200 days into blogging about it through this online blog event. I agree with Mike in that we all do live Scouting everyday and so lets just talk about it, write about, and show the world that Scouting is alive!
Its my hope that all the great Scouting bloggers out there keep it.. call it what you want, but just keep sharing. I have been doing this blog since 2007, far more that 200 days and it has always been about my adventure in Scouting. Sharing the dream and helping to deliver the promise of Scouting. It is also my hope then that we continue to grow our Online Scouting community and we all share the adventure, the challenge, the leadership that is so evident in our blogs.
#100daysofscouting.. its been fun. So my challenge to you is to keep those blogs going. Give feedback to the blogs you read, and keep our Online Scouting community alive, and Live Scouting everyday!
I apologize that there will be no podcast out today… I intended to record while at Wood Badge, but for those of you that know what it is to be a Troop Guide.. well there is just no time. And so I will get back on track next week with some great Scouting programming.

It seems things happen in bunches…
Funny it seems that things happen in groups. They say that bad things happen in groups of three… well I think good things happen in greater numbers.
After talking with Nick last weekend, it seems that my Scouting World has just been getting bigger and better.
I have met some new Scouters and have had an more and more opportunities open up.
Tuesday night I made an attempt at opening up the lines and did call in show using Skype. A couple Scouting friends from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and California, joined me for a lengthy conversation on their Scouting worlds. It is nice to compare programs, operations, and just what makes our Scout units tick.
The show went longer than normal…but how can you turn it off once you get into a great talk…
Anyway-
Good things do come in bunches.. and Scouting gives us many opportunities to participate in those good things, even just talking with good Scouting friends.
Check out the show and all the other shows at the Scoutmaster Minute Podcast.
